II General Description

This heavily repointed (or refaced?) church comprises a single nave with a bell turret (rebuilt 1961), and a small, square chancel. The chancel arch is plain and round-headed; one Norman window survives in the S wall of the nave.

This is a small arcaded Sussex marble font, now raised on a high, painted pedestal. The square bowl is carved on each side with four round headed arches. The interior of the basin is lead lined, and lower edge of the bowl is chamfered. It stands on five columns, without capitals but with shallow moulded bases. (Location: W end of nave.)

VII History

Not mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086). The earliest reference to the church occursc.1100, when it is recorded that the Prior of Lewes received a pension from 'Cotes' church (A Short Guide, 1).
