four orders, round-headed; continuous stepped abacus decorated with palmettes.

1st order, in arch chevron wraps around both face and soffit of the curved profile; in the soffit face the chevron is set point-to point, with crosses carved in the spandrels.

There is a continuous stepped abacus that is decorated with foliage composed of a series of palmettes.

E caps paired, with carving organised around semi-circular bands decorated with pellets, their looped form making reference to the lunettes of scallops. The areas within the loops chamfered back, and tendrils of foliage rise from the shafts and the intermediate spur to interweave with the loops.

W caps complex foliage trails perhaps never more than blocked out.

In jambs paired engaged shafts separated by spur to flanks.

base a roll and a hollow above the sub-base; W base renewed.

2nd order chevron wraps around both face and soffit of the curved profile.

E cap has small grotesque head at angle corresponding to angle volutes of corinthianesque capitals, from mouth of which fronds of foliage emerge. Circular tendril of foliage that is chief element on two exposed faces makes reference to lunette of cushion capital, each circle filled with ‘Byzantine blossom’. The necking cable-moulded.

W cap more damaged and no longer clear if it had a head at the angle; filled with bifurcating frond of foliage that breaks across the underlying circle and terminates in a trifoliate leaf; circular tendril of foliage makes reference to lunette of cushion capital. The necking cable-moulded.

base a sequence of roll, hollow, roll and hollow above square sub-base; W base renewed.

3rd order chevron wraps around both face and soffit of the curved profile; in the soffit face the chevron is set point-to point, with crosses carved in the spandrels.

In jambs simple rectangular profile.

4th order of shallower projection, edged with a narrow quirked angle roll, and decorated with low-relief square flower, with eight petals radiating around central knop.
