The Trustees and the Management Board of the Corpus of Romanesque sculpture in Britain and Ireland are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chair of the Management Board, Dr Xavier Dectot. Xavier Dectot brings both scholarship and managerial expertise to the project and, since 2016, has been the Keeper of Art and Design at National Museums Scotland in Edinburgh.
With a diploma from the Écolenationaledes Chartes and a doctorate from the École pratique des Hautes Études, Dr Dectot’s museum career has encompassed the Musée de Cluny and the Musée du Louvre at Lens, where he was Director for five years from 2011 and instrumental in establishing the new museum.
CRSBI is now well on its way to a full record of all the sculpture from some 5000 sites, dating between 1066 and the early 13th century, with support from numerous bodies, most notably the British Academy, and private benefactors. Dr Dectot’s appointment falls at an important moment in the evolution of the Corpus towards complete coverage, with 2725 sites now online.
