The present church was built in 1849 to designs by JH Hakewill. However, the font, decorated with triangular arches, probably dates from the late 12th century.
The DB only mentions that Durand of Gloucester holds both Lower and Upper Seagry but there is no mention of a church. A church was founded here in 1172 by Walter de Clifford. This early church had a nave, a chancel and a chapel in the position of the south transept. It was appropriated by Bradenstoke Priory between 1194 and 1217.
