The parish church of Minto was moved to its present site in 1830-31, when the design was carried out by William Playfair. A number of carved stones from the old church site are deposited inside the tower.

The two sawtooth-decorated stones can be compared with other stones left on the site of the earlier church (see: Minto, site of medieval church), but the curved stone with this motif is unique within the group. The unfinished state of the upper surface may suggest that it was used as a practice area for carving. Another stone, that carved with a lozenge motif and flower pattern, probably originally formed part of an arch and, like the curved sawtooth-decorated stone, has a reasonably large depth.

The two corbels, however, have a motif which seems related to geometric beakhead. An example of this form is to be found on the exterior of the gateway of the abbey at Bury St Edmunds. All of these stones probably come from the 12thc church. It is possible that the small grave cover was also carved during this period, but this type of grave cover, with a bracelet-headed cross on a calvary base continued to be used for a considerable period afterwards. Other, later stones, from the site of the old church are also kept in the ground-floor area of the tower of the later church.
