The fabric of the church is 12thc in origin, much rebuilt in the 17thc, when the porch may have been added, and restored in 1879. The present building consists of a chancel, nave and S porch.
Frome Vauchurch is valued in the Domesday Book as £4 to its lord, Ansfrid, in 1086. The rectory is valued as £ 4. 6s. 8d. in the 1291 Taxatio.
The church's original dedication is unknown: it is now dedicated to St Francis.
