Description

Sutton is a village on the South Downs in the district of Chichester, 10 miles NE of Chichester itself and 4 miles S of Petworth. The church has a W tower (c.1300), a nave (c.1100) with a S aisle (early 13thc.), a N transept (14thc.?) and a long square-ended chancel (14thc.?).

The font is probably contemporary with the S aisle and shows how a traditional local design was adapted to comply with new aesthetics, ie: the Gothic style.
